🌽 About Barsati Makki
Barsati Makki is a farmer-first initiative led by Rana Gurjeet Singh to promote sustainable maize cultivation during the kharif season. This mission empowers Punjab's farmers with an eco-friendly and economically viable alternative to water-intensive crops, particularly paddy, without opposing traditional practices.
Aligned with Punjab's climate and sowing cycles, Barsati Makki is the right crop at the right time. It offers a solution to Punjab's growing water crisis, while ensuring farmers earn more in less time.

This is not a political mission — it's Punjab's mission to save water and secure our farming future.
🌾 What is Barsati Makki?
Barsati Makki refers to maize (Zea mays L.) cultivated during the kharif season, typically from late May to August, aligned with the natural monsoon cycle in Punjab and other northern states. The term "Barsati" literally means "rain-fed", reflecting its dependence on seasonal rainfall instead of intensive irrigation systems.
Unlike traditional paddy, which consumes a huge amount of water and takes 140–150 days to mature, Barsati Makki is a short-duration, low-water crop that is ready to harvest within 70–100 days, depending on the variety.
It is known globally as the "Queen of Cereals" due to its adaptability, productivity, and widespread use in food, feed, and industry. Barsati Makki not only suits Punjab's current water-stressed ecosystem but also enables farmers to take multiple crops in one year and diversify their income sources.
